Twenty Four

Well, 24, you have arrived.

I recently read a little article titled “…because I’m twentysomething”  and it served as the soundtrack to my current life. It is amazing how time changes everything. Even in this past year, I have found myself standing up in my first friend wedding, celebrating countless pretty rings on my friends fingers, going to baby showers, receiving an invite for my 5 year class reunion and attending house warming parties. Our 20’s are tricky, and it seems to be the time where all big life decisions are made, or rather, where we think it makes the most sense.

I graduated college in May of this year, and found myself feeling stuck. Do I apply for jobs? Do I try to make photography a career? What if I fail, and then can’t get a teaching job? Do I move home? Do I have enough money to move out? Should I move to a new state, just because? My mind raced with scenarios, and I couldn’t help but think that any decision I make will have such a huge impact on my life.

I turned off my thinker and rid the molds. Your 20’s are all about doing what makes you the happiest. I completely stopped applying for teaching jobs, I am traveling whenever I get the chance, I will live wherever I land, and I will keep taking pictures and creating “because as easy as it is to forget, you’re free to do what you want with your life.” I am allowed to change my mind, set goals and then set new goals.

Documented below is the weekend I turned 24. It is filled with love, favorite friends, the cutest antique shop, a Packer game, food, phone photos, my new love for my Instax, and the realization that I am living the good life. Cheers!

“…but what i really mean to say is that I hope you aren’t held back because of a number. and that you don’t rush into things because it feels like time is slipping by. i hope you do what’s right for you.   hold on. slow down. and breathe in. your age is your age. but more importantly, your life is your life. don’t change your journey so that it matches someone elses. we need to walk different paths so the whole world can be explored. revel in the differences. and enjoy where you are.”
